projectALCHEMY Presents
WITH LOVE,
projectALCHEMY is honored to share With Love, with you—a reimagined dance-theater work by founder Alexander Jones in collaboration with Bob Devin Jones. Originally premiering in 2017, this deeply personal piece returns with new layers of meaning, shaped by time, experience, and the wisdom found in bell hooks’ All About Love.
More than a performance, With Love, is a conversation—an invitation to reflect on love as care, commitment, trust, and the radical act of showing up for one another. Through movement and storytelling, Jones and Jones explore love in its many forms: defining love, experiencing both young and mature love, encountering its shadow side, and looking to love as legacy and ancestry.
We invite you to join us in this journey—to witness, to feel, and perhaps, to see love in a new way.

Bob Devin Jones – Playwright, Director, Actor, and Community Arts Advocate
Bob Devin Jones (born 1954) is an acclaimed American playwright, director, and actor whose work often explores civil rights and social justice themes. Raised in Southern California, he studied acting at Loyola Marymount University before pursuing graduate studies at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. His career took him across the country as an actor and director, with Los Angeles serving as his home base for much of that time.
A prolific playwright, Jones has penned more than a dozen plays, including *Uncle Bends: A Home-Cooked Negro Narrative*, which premiered in 1995 with the Sacramento Theater Company and has since been performed nationally and internationally. The play uses food as a metaphor to examine racial stereotypes and the resilience of African Americans throughout history. In 2001, he wrote *Manhattan Casino*, a musical chronicling the legacy of a historic St. Petersburg music hall that once hosted legendary Black musicians like Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. His works have been featured at American Stage and the LiveArts Peninsula Foundation, and he has directed numerous productions nationwide, including *The Black Nativity*, *Smokey Joe's Cafe*, and *Gem of the Ocean*.
Jones first visited St. Petersburg in 1997 to direct a Harlem Renaissance-inspired production of *Miss Julie*. Captivated by the city and its artistic spirit, he decided to make it his home, eventually co-founding **The Studio@620** in 2004 with David Ellis. Under his leadership as co-artistic director, The Studio@620 became a hub for artistic expression, fostering a culture where the answer was always “yes” to creative ideas. The venue has hosted an array of events, from poetry readings by Yevgeny Yevtushenko to discussions with historian John Hope Franklin, as well as Shakespeare productions, visual arts exhibitions, and literary series featuring renowned authors. The space received recognition in *The New York Times* and numerous local awards for its contributions to arts programming and community engagement.
Now retired from The Studio@620, Jones remains a vital presence in St. Petersburg’s cultural scene. A mentor to young directors, writers, and visual artists, he continues to uplift the next generation of creatives. Whether through his storytelling, directing, or his signature chocolate chip cookies, Bob Devin Jones remains a pillar of the community and a true man about the arts in St. Pete.
